Elabor8 is thrilled to be sponsoring this Thursdays ICTWomen – Leadership Hacks event.
Leadership Hacks is a cross industry think tank event, designed to crowd source ideas to significantly increase the participation of women in senior technology roles.
Since our inception in 2009 Elabor8 have been been committed to providing rewarding careers for women in technology. Information Technology has traditionally been a traditionally male oriented field so we are proud that our efforts to recruit and develop talented women has resulted in a healthy 45% representation in our company.
We will be represented at the event by a group of our best and brightest women. Nina Gritzke, Jessica Doedee, Ritika Kulsrestha, Shadi Zandi and Morgan Chandler who are all very excited to participate.
Morgan Chandler, a Senior Business Analyst and one of Elabor8’s brightest consultants, shares her story as to why she is a passionate supporter of women in IT.
I studied a degree in a bachelor of Information Systems at Melbourne University. I recall quite vividly sitting in my first IS lecture, in the back of a lecture theatre that holds over 1000 students, counting only six other females sitting in front of me. This very low percentage has held true across most of the IT projects to which I have been a part of.
Being an IT specialist in the utilities industry has opened the door to a huge career opportunities for me. IT and Utilities has offered me a rewarding career, the opportunity to work with a variety of clients, and most importantly the opportunity to work with and mentor young females who are on the same path as I am in the vast world of IT.
This year I decided it was time to do something about the percentage minority, I volunteered my time to assist in organizing the Go Girl Go for IT event, a biennial program where students form all across Victoria were invited to listen, learn and experience first-hand what a career in IT was all about. This program gave me an opportunity to share some of my enthusiasm for working in ICT with young women who might not have considered ICT an option.
I was personally and professionally excited to hear that Elabor8 had volunteered to be gold sponsor of the ICT Leaderships Hacks event and instantly volunteered my time to assist to be part of it. Every minute that I spend promoting women working in IT, hopefully results in more young females taking
up a career in the field.
